Later I met someone who was job-hunting; they had years of experience in the area one of the Start-ups was focused on. I took their card and gave it to the Start-up owner. He thanked me for the referral and seemed very eager to contact the job-hunter.

It cost me nothing to connect the two. But if my few minutes of effort pays off for them, they will remember me. Will it result in cash in my pocket right away? Certainly not. Will the Start-up and the job-hunter get together and gain value from sharing knowledge? Definitely. And they will remember who introduced them.

I may never get anything but the satisfaction of knowing I helped two people further their goals, and that’s more than OK, because I truly enjoy doing that. But someday one of them may be the key to closing a deal for me.
